Torsional optomechanical cooling of a nanofiber

We demonstrate the optomechanical cooling of a tapered optical nanofiber by coupling polarization light to mechanical angular momentum system. The is enabled birefringence in fiber and does not make use an resonator. find evidence for distribution thermally driven amplitude fluctuations noise spectrum torsional modes. Our proof-of-principle demonstration shows cavity-less degree freedom macroscopically extended nanofiber.
